Franconia Notch State Park

A 6,693-acre stretch of the White Mountains carved out by glaciers and home to Flume Gorge, the Basin, Echo Lake, and the Old Man of the Mountain Historic Site. The Notch is the reason most people come to this part of New Hampshire, and it's right next door.

Cannon Mountain

One of New England's most storied ski mountains, with steep terrain, an 80-passenger aerial tram, and views from the summit that go on for miles. Ski it in winter; ride the tram up and hike down in summer.

The Flume Gorge

An 800-foot natural granite gorge with covered bridges, waterfalls, and a boardwalk that takes you right through the middle of it. A North Country must-do.

Mount Lafayette & Franconia Ridge

One of the most celebrated hikes in the Northeast — an exposed ridgeline traverse with panoramic views in every direction. For the experienced hiker, this is the one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Very close. Cannon Mountain is a short drive from Sugar Hill, typically 10 to 15 minutes. Right in Franconia Notch, Cannon has the highest ski area summit in New Hampshire and its longest vertical drop, plus the state’s only aerial tramway. Loon Mountain and Bretton Woods are both within easy reach for guests who want to ski more than one mountain in a trip.

Just down the road. Franconia Notch State Park is home to Echo Lake, the Flume Gorge, and miles of waterfalls, hiking trails, and overlooks, and it sits minutes from the property. It’s the anchor for most of what draws guests here, in every season.

Plenty, whatever the season. Winter brings skiing and riding at Cannon, Loon, and Bretton Woods. Spring and summer open up hiking, waterfalls, and the tramway ride to the summit, along with the famous purple lupines that blanket Sugar Hill in June. Fall delivers some of New England’s best foliage. Year-round, the village of Franconia sits right down the mountain, and nearby Littleton anchors the area with a lively main street of restaurants, breweries, cafes, and shops. Bethlehem, known for its galleries and antiques, is a short drive as well.

Easy to reach from across the Northeast. Boston is about 150 miles, roughly two and a half hours by car via I-93. Montreal is about 180 miles, around three hours. The closest major airport is Manchester-Boston Regional, about 105 miles away, with Boston Logan at about 151 miles.
